Our Projects

KCA is conducting a wide range of research projects in fields such as drug discovery, new diagnostics, disease prevention in child cancer survivors, improved supportive care for children from remote areas, palliative care, epidemiology and education.
Current projects:
Improving practice
- Pharmacokinetic assessment, aimed at reducing toxicity and enhancing efficacy, in child cancer patients undergoing therapy
- Development of a KCA Clinical Trials Centre for early phase trials
- Factors determining success of early phase clinical trials in child cancer patients
- Predictive clinical and genetic factors for the side-effects of chemotherapy in children treated for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
- Short telomeres as a marker of treatment toxicity
- Molecular profiling for factors predicting sensitivity or resistance to specific therapies in relapsed child cancer
Translating evidence into practice
- Consent, communication and decision making in early phase paediatric cancer trials
- Development of a best practice model of care for survivors of paediatric cancer
